MandiOne mobile app — quality check and marketplace listing screens, held against a backdrop of fresh produce
Overview

MandiOne set out to digitize a trade that had always run on relationships, phone calls, and local mandis (markets) — bringing buyers and sellers of agricultural produce onto a single platform, without losing the trust and negotiation dynamics that make the trade work.

Over a year, I worked across the full product surface: the buyer/seller mobile app, the admin dashboard, and the design system underpinning both — elevating the experience through a full mobile app and dashboard revamp, crafting 20+ features aligned to real market behaviour, and building a unique design system to keep the growing product consistent and scalable.

Challenge

Agricultural trade doesn't behave like typical e-commerce. Price isn't fixed, quality is subjective and negotiated, and trust between buyer and seller — often built over years in person — needed to somehow translate to a screen.

The product had to:

  • Reflect real, fluctuating market dynamics (like regional price differences for the same produce) rather than static catalog listings.
  • Support negotiation-style buyer/seller interactions instead of a simple add-to-cart flow.
  • Scale across many produce types and seller behaviours without the experience becoming inconsistent or cluttered.
  • Do all of this within an existing product that had constraints on how much could be visually overhauled at once — the revamp needed coherence with what already existed, not a from-scratch rebuild.
Approach & Workflow
01 — Discover

User Interviews & Feedback

We conducted comprehensive market research to understand the features that actually mattered before building anything, gathering direct feedback from sellers and actively running user interviews to validate assumptions rather than guess at them. This iterative loop continued throughout the project.

02 — Define

Turning Insights into Direction

Interview findings were mapped through an Observations → Insights → Recommendations framework, translating research into actionable product decisions.

03 — Prioritization

Urgent vs Important

We prioritized features using an Urgent vs Important matrix to determine what should ship first based on business value and user impact.

04 — Design

Wireframes to High Fidelity

Once the information architecture was finalized, we translated validated concepts into high-fidelity wireframes before moving into polished UI.

Post Demand flow wireframes — from product and quantity selection through to confirmation
05 — Deliver

Prototype & Usability Testing

Every major feature was validated through prototyping and usability testing before development.

Visual Design, Within Real Constraints

Revamping MandiOne meant working within the boundaries of an existing, live product. Rather than rebuilding everything from scratch, I created a consistent visual language using a refined colour palette and typography system that unified the experience across the application.

MandiOne marketplace listing and product details screens
MandiOne post demand and enquiries flow — product selection, grade, and enquiry list screens
MandiOne transaction flow — quality check, M1 Virtual Pay, payment methods, and product details screens
Illustration & Iconography

I developed a custom illustration style and icon library that reinforced the MandiOne brand across onboarding, empty states, and key moments throughout the application.

Admin Dashboard

Alongside the mobile application, I designed an admin dashboard that helped internal teams manage listings, transactions, and marketplace operations through a centralized interface.

MandiOne admin dashboard — add product form with product, variety, and timer details, on tablet
